1. Controller

The controller responsible for the processing of personal data on MapPlanet is:

2. Hosting and technical access data

MapPlanet is hosted on Scaleway infrastructure. When the website or API is accessed, technically necessary connection data is generated. This may include the IP address, time of access, requested resource and browser or user-agent information.

This data is processed to provide the service securely and reliably and to detect and prevent misuse on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

3. User account

For registration and use of a user account, MapPlanet processes the email address provided and the chosen username. No further personal information is required for registration. Passwords are not stored in plain text, but only as a cryptographic hash.

MapPlanet does not collect personal information beyond your email address and username. Only technically necessary data for operation, security and communication is generated in addition.

Processing is necessary to provide the user account and enable use of MapPlanet. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

4. Email communication

The email address is used solely for communication between MapPlanet and you, in particular for registration, account activation, password resets and messages concerning your user account.

5. Login and session cookie

After a successful login, MapPlanet uses a technically necessary session cookie. It is used solely to recognize the logged-in user during use of the service. The cookie is not intended for advertising, profiling or audience measurement.

6. Protection against misuse

To protect registration, login and password functions against automated or abusive access, MapPlanet may store the IP address, email address, requested function, user agent and a technical assessment of the request. This data is retained only for as long as necessary to protect the service against misuse.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interest is the protection of the service and its users against misuse.

7. Country determination based on the IP address

For certain requests, MapPlanet may determine the country of origin from the IP address. For this purpose, the IP address may be transmitted to ipinfo.io. The country information obtained is not used to create personal user profiles.

8. Entries and published content

Entries are technically associated with the relevant user account. Content published by a user for an entry may be visible publicly. The user's email address is not displayed publicly.

9. No advertising, no tracking, no user profiles

MapPlanet does not use analytics, advertising or tracking services and does not create user profiles for advertising purposes.

10. Recipients of data

Personal data is processed by or disclosed to service providers only where this is necessary for the technical operation of MapPlanet.

Scaleway is used for hosting and technical infrastructure. Zoho is used for email communication. ipinfo.io may be used to determine the country based on the IP address.

The email address is not displayed publicly and is not disclosed to third parties for their own purposes.

11. Retention periods

Account data is generally stored for as long as the user account exists, unless statutory retention obligations require longer storage. Technical security and abuse-prevention data is retained only for as long as necessary for its respective purpose.

12. Data subject rights

Subject to the statutory requirements, data subjects have in particular the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability, as well as the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests.

Data subjects also have the right to lodge a complaint with a competent data protection supervisory authority.
